Shit I remember

Asked my friend Bob for Podcast recommendations.
One she mentioned was the Nerdist which featured Chris Hardwick.
At first I couldn't recall if he hosted Singled out or the first season of American Idol.
Finally decided on Singled out, did a search was right then had to remember who hosted Season 1 of American Idol beside Secrest.
It was Brian Dunkleman which I remembered moments later.
I have no explanation why I remember this shit.

delicious?

Years ago my friend Jen said if there was a bacon ranch cereal she'd eat it every day.
That year I got a thanksgiving pack of Jones Soda for Secret Santa.
None were good.

My Travel Plans

I travel cheap.
Once in a while economy seems too expensive.
Kaes suggested cargo hold for me.
I sent him this.

Messing with Kaes

My friend Kaes is studying to be an Air Traffic Controller
I enjoy messing with him by sending him all manner of strange links and quasi suggestions and odd things marginally related to topics.
Today it was about doing homework I went to my old stand by: Wikihow.
Great tips.
Such as:
2.Make sure that you bring all of your homework home with you. (You are not going to "accidentally" forget it at school.)
5.Write down any events that may be going on - (This way you will not forget!)
7.Post the schedule somewhere you can see, like your bedroom door or wall.

Great Stuff. Well done.

Can wait to break out my wool coats.

cuppéd cake

My friend Lauren came to Seattle; I took her to Cupcake Royale. Since then I tend to send her pictures of cupcakes when I get them.
A while ago I remember hearing someone saying how cupcakes were on the way out but pie was on the way in.
Take this hipster attitude I have begun telling her cupcakes are passé and I'm only enjoying it ironically.
Once again Natalie Dee beats me to the joke.

Also cupcakes are awesome.

Riff Trax

I was a fan of MST3k and meant to get into Riff Trax but for some reason never did.
A bit ago I found this video and realized I missed 5 years of humor and needed to get that time back somehow.
Now I've watched a few riff trax and yes it is indeed awesome.

Message in Bottles

I have a friend and we correspond by email but also by letter. Each year we send each other a letter about 9/11 because we spent time and got drunk that evening. It's one of those memories that stick with you and I try to keep it up. This year she sent me a letter in a bottle because how often does one get to find one?
Me: so far none.
Her: also zero.

Mental Floss ran this. Interesting stuff. In fact when I wander I've found letters on walks but so far nothing very good. Though I will say I heard about the Laura Buxton one. I believe it was on Radio Lab but I'm not sure. During it they brought up the similarities and played the story to make it the coincidence sound amazing but then play further interviews that showed they weren't so similar and it was just an odd coincidence.

Not unlike the fact there is a guy in Moses Lake with my same name and he has a criminal record and when I apply for things his info is brought up. Still some day I'll go there and try to party with him... or me... no idea but it'll be awesome.

Anti-Prostitution Poster

How to be a Retronaut showed me this and while there were so many good ones but this stark poster could be for anything from increasing production in the Motherland to not letting our boys down.

Language

Language is a living changing thing. Despite hating the word 'hella' it's not going away but I can still refuse to us it.
Still grates my nerves but I've learned to be tolerate after the incident.

This is by Dorothy who draws Cat and Girl which is witty, strange, too intelligent, literary, insightful, and an excellent read.

Be Careful of New Things

While working a gig there was a smart board that a friend had her eye on.
By eye I mean she was drooling over the box and she may have need a few minutes alone with it.
I sent this to her as advice.

Obsidian Abnormal did this and runs an awesome webcomic called COMMISSIONED comic.
It rocks

Origami Envelope

Looks tough but really isn't too bad
Instructions Here

USPS is in trouble and folks need to send more mail.
I've found cool posters, folded them like this and mailed them with notes to friends. I need to do that more because I don't want to see the postal service go away. Also sending more packages but that's a different thing entirely.

Brilliant!

If you want to see more you should go to Memebase but you don't have to take my word or it.

Go Aggies!

TYWKIWDBI had an article about non conference college football games and I nearly skipped the whole thing. I hardly care about conference college football or football and even college it could go either way until I read this:
"...the [Minnesota] Gophers sent the [New Mexico State] Aggies home with an $800,000 tip Saturday, the largest visiting-team guarantee the Gophers have ever paid (From Star Tribune).
I went to NMSU and the football was pretty bad then. They were also building a mutlimillion dollar training center for this team.
I didn't think they deserved it, still don't think they do, but I'm not in a place to really be bothered by it. After all there was the year the Aggies made it on the cover of Sports Illustrated as the Worst College Team of the Year.
Still good to see NMSU in the news.

Aggies, Oh Aggies!
We’ll win this game or know the reason why!
And when we win this game,
We’ll buy a keg of booze,
And we’ll drink it to the Aggies
‘till we wobble in our shoes!

Oh internet

I reposted the story about the ginger seal, sorry I mean sea lion, my mistake. I studied theatre and read the article as what happens when unfavorable mutations affect an animal in the wild. Nature is, after all, a cruel beast. Other saw it as proof why gingers are bad and yet others as a group throwing out a freak and how sad that was.

But some were pissed about the wrong animal being reported.
Yeah I found one or two of this but this one is the one I image someone reading it, getting foaming at the mouth pissed off and trying to set right what once went wrong.
But without Dean Stockwell.

Afterwards I thought of Dara Ó Briain on QI

I just heard about this but being a fan of local commercials, I can only hope Crazy Gideon gets similar meme treatment soon.

Party Theme for a Theme Party

Next Week I'm going to a Plaid Hipster Themed Party, or something.
This is my inspiration.

Internet: Making my life different since 1995

It's called If This than That and it might make how I'm currently running this blog easier.

Poor Genetic Mutation

Being a mutant is tough. Rarely does it involve being able to have telepathy, super strength or shoot fireworks.
It's unfortunate it's more like this.
Different hair color and being almost blind.

Overclockapoloza

Today I read about AMD over clocking a 8 core (Octo-core?) processor to 8.429 Ghz.
Mind it only used 2 of the 8 cores, was cooled by liquid hydrogen and helium, but damn.
Gamespy wrote an article a decade or so ago about a 386 that was overclocked to what seemed ridiculous at the time. (probably 1.2 Ghz) It was turned on, ran for a moment and then burst into flames.
So ended that overclocking experiment.

Currently I have no concept of how fast that is. I started computing on whatever came before 286s. Remember loading from DOS and still remember commands from Wordstar. The fact that my current out of date pc would be fine for me if it wasn't overheating and becoming rather shitty has forced me to upgrade.

But, hey, if you've got to overclock a processor why not do it with some style.

Playboy for 60 cents?

Hmm maybe too good to be true but usually when I get that expression it's because the waitress (or bartender) is being nice with my half assed attempt at flirting.
Also why couldn't they have picked a photo where her smile seems more natural?

Saving Whales by Drink Beer

"[November 4th 2010] at the Sea Shepherds auction in Fremantle, the number one bottle (of 30) of Antarctic Nail Ale was sold for $800. The unique beer which was brewed with ice brought back from the Antarctica from the Sea Shepherds last campaign. The Sea Shepherd will soon leave on their seventh campaign to stop Japanese killing whales in the Antarctic sanctuary. All proceeds from Antarctic Nail Ale go to the Sea Shepherd." ( via)

Saving Whales by Drinking (expensive) Beer. No different than me claiming to support unions by drinking PBR.

Changeling

Something Awful's been doing a WTF DnD segment for a bit. Recently they tackled Changeling: The Dreaming

II really enjoyed this game.
In high school and college I ran games.
To say I ran a successful games is a stretch.
They were fun but nothing came from them.
Despite being the bastard child of the WOD system, until it became only about bastard children, I had fun.

Urban Legends - The Unexplained (episode 4)
